[ The feed clicks on to show Peter chilling by his ship in Vænnstaðr's park; he has a crossbow, blueprints and some metal pieces scattered on top of the crate next to him. For those looking at the ship behind the man, they might notice that there's moss growing on one side already and that Peter has put some plants on the roof to appease the resident Goddess -- because Skadi is a very scary, scary lady. ]
Ey there! Does anybody know how to turn a normal crossbow into an automatic one? Rocket was the weapon expert of the team and I'm more used to Quad blasters and arrows that fly on their own. [ Peter's smile wavers a little after that, remembering the owner of a said arrow, but it only lasts a second. ]
Anyway! I'm also curious about what kind of powers everyone has developed after being in the city for a while. It looks like there's quite a variety and lately, we've been discussing ways to protect ourselves in case of an emergency, as well as the need to evacuate the citizens quickly. One idea is to build big enough carriages and ships to transport people but these need to be protected too.
One of the wings of my ship is... [ The Guardian turns the camera so it focuses on the broken wing, half attached to the ship due to the twisted metal, some cables, and its inner structure. ] ...totally useless now but the turbines could be turned into wind turbines and the metal panels could be used to reinforce the carriages.
[ Do you want a medieval tank, guys? Because this how you get a medieval tank. ]
Problem is, I tried with axes and other blunt methods but I can't break it down on my own. That's why I was asking if anybody has powers strong enough to cut metal or melt it.
[ He turns the camera back to show himself and now that the angle has changed, it shows how there's a caracal lying on top of the intact wing of the ship as if she's sunbathing without any care in the world. Peter is seemingly oblivious to it all, not even looking concerned when the creature yawns and stretches, showing some really sharp fangs and claws. ]
Any kind of help would be welcome.

[ You're a sweetheart, Naminé, Peter can tell already. ]
I'll let him know then, I'm sure he will be thankful for the help.
Can't complain. We traveled the Galaxy helping others and keeping people safe as much as we could.
[ Peter sounds proud when talking about his team but there's some lingering sadness to his tone as well. He misses his family. ]
Nice to meet you Naminé, I'm Peer Quill but around the universe they know me as Star Lord.
no subject
I think a lot of us have some important things to get used to here.
[ Herself included; it's utterly disconcerting being without her usual powers, after all, even if she hasn't experienced too much lately that they'd help with. It's a bit like having lost a limb, albeit an extraneous one most other people live without. ]
Okay. I'll do my best.
[ And although she's a bit nervous about that, she doesn't fail to notice the way he talks about his companions. It tugs her lips down slightly, sympathetically, but-- well, if there are people he cares about that way, she can't help approving of him a little more for it even aside from his claims of assisting others throughout the universe. ]
That sounds a bit like someone else I know.
It seems like almost every world these days has some kind of trouble, so you must have been very busy.
[ And since she doesn't really interact with people who go by last names very often-- ]
It's nice to meet you too, Peter.
[ Yeah, no automatic Quill for him. In any case, if he thought he'd get by with that other name without her questioning it he's got another thing coming. ]
Why do they call you that?
Star Lord, I mean.
no subject
[ He did have the powers of a god that one time but peter doesn't regret losing them. Stopping his father was necessary to keep everyone safe. ]
Don't worry too much if in the end it doesn't work, okay?
[ Giving it a try is already a lot. If she can help Loki, then great, if not...well, she tried. ]
Does it? Is that person in the city as well? Trouble is an unfortunate constant all across the different world sand timelines, I'm afraid. We were, before I arrived here there was...there was a huge battle to decide the future of the whole universe.
[ His tone of voice turns more serious and his smile vanishes. The battle against Thanos is all too fresh in his mind and he's still dealing with the repercussions of everything that was lost, his family included. And using his first name is fine and dandy. At least naminé didn't immediately mock his nickname. ]
You know, in 30 years no one ever asked me that before. Everyone usually laughed at it. [ It actually gets her another small smile, more sincere if a little sad. The honest question deserves an honest answer. ] Is what my mother used to call me so I wanted to keep using it after she passed away.
no subject
[That's... really wholesome and cute, okay.]
no subject
Uhm...yeah. She did. I was 8 at the time but the name stuck.
[ He looks a little wary, as if he's waiting to be made fun off. ]
no subject
[If he didn't know Peter, he would absolutely make fun of his name. But it's a family thing, and he likes Peter, so it gets not much in the terms of a biteback.]
no subject
[ Making fun of his nickname is rude but acceptable. Making fun of his mom, however, is a sure way to piss him off. Peter appreciates Nero not mocking him in any way. ]
What were your parents like?
no subject
uh
ig you could say they were nice
its hard to really describe them in detail bc its been a long time
but from what i remember she was kind and devoted a lot
and he definitely was more stern and strict
[It's not entirely a lie- Nero wasn't exactly close to his foster parents, and they died when he was still a kid. He sure doesn't know how his mother was and only just recently met his father- so yeah, definitely not talking about them for now.]
no subject
[ Oh...Peter didn't mean to bring up uncomfortable subjects. Sorry, Nero :( ]
no subject
yeah it wasnt bad
i had good memories with them
and i had a family so thats what matters
no subject
Family is the people you want to go back to, if you ask me. They're not always blood relatives.
no subject
i can definitely think of a few
its just something that comes naturally i guess
no subject
Yeah it does. Humans are pack animals, it's kind of inevitable. And even those who aren't human don't like to stay alone.
[ text -> video ]
About how advanced everyone else's worlds are, that is.
Some of the worlds I know have technology like your ship, but many of them don't.
I've used computers before but until recently I never had any way to talk with people from far away, like we're doing now.
It's easier to learn how to use new things than it is to lose the ones you know, I think.
[ Which means she doesn't envy his situation, to be sure. And he's good to reassure her, though it takes her next message an extra few moments to come through because of it. Small kindnesses are another one of those things she's still getting used to in Asgard. ]
Okay.
[ she says, though what she really means is, 'Thank you.' Perhaps it's better that she thank him other ways, anyhow, like answering his question promptly even though the rest of what he's said has her both curious and concerned. ]
Yes. He is.
Although he was part of a team too. The others aren't here with him.
[ Only once that's answered does she indulge her perplexed bemusement; ]
Did you win?
[ He seems awfully serious about the battle in question, which doesn't bode well, but it feels gentler than asking if he lost. It's that last bit, though - that bit about his mother that finally makes her overcome her reluctance and switch the video feed on. She looks about as uncertain as one might expect given how long it took her to show her face, but when she regards the camera it's with big, sad blue eyes that manage to look sympathetic somewhere in all the shyness. ]
I won't laugh. [ Maybe that's why she's finally sending video; to prove it. Her voice is sweet, if a little melancholy. ] I've never had a mother, but-- [ A small shake of her head; her blonde hair sways slightly. ] If I did, I'd want to keep any name she gave me.
[ perma video ]
[ It's not an ideal situation but Peter has always been adaptable so he tries to work with what they have instead of complaining much. That said, he still wants to see if he can use the turbine from his broken ship to generate electricity. ]
He sees the simple 'okay' text and offers a nod in response. He might not be able to see her but he's used to people like Gamora and Nebula who doesn't say much when they mean a lot.
Maybe the others will show up after a while. People seem to pop up in the city at random times. You never know. [ Peter takes a deep breath before answering, trying to reign in his emotions and keep his voice steady. It's harder than it looks. ] He was stopped, yes. Whereas it counts as a win is up to debate, many good people died because of him and a whole lot more of others will have to live the rest of their lives affected by the repercussions. But that monster is gone, which means things can only improve from here.
[ The screen blink and so does Peter when he sees the blond girl in front of him. he wasn't expecting that. Oh, hello. ]
Thanks, Naminé. [ He doesn't say it with words either but the compassion means a lot to him. There's a sad smile on Peter's face as she shares her own personal information, but it's a smile nonetheless. ]I'm sorry to hear that. You know, maybe we should come up with a good nickname for you too.
no subject
But that seems like a discussion for another time; she has enough of an answer to her initial curiosity about worlds of origin to go on. What actually sticks with her past the point that she finally brings up her video feed is that battle, or rather the apparent toll of it. It hangs in the back of her mind, held quietly there until they've reintroduced themselves, so to speak, with this new method of communication.
Naminé, for her part, watches the screen with a lingering hesitance, but there's a sad smile of her own that upturns the corners of her mouth all the same. ]
Of course, [ she offers in response to his thanks. No, no laughter here - and at his sympathy she shakes her head again, more firmly this time, and says, ] It's always been that way. You don't have to be sorry.
[ The tone of it suggests, and rightly so, that she doesn't consider her lack of a mother anything worth mourning. To her it would be far worse to have one and then to lose her - which might be the same way she feels about any kind of relationship, really, given how few of them she's been granted in her life. She's used to being lonely; to go back to being that way after not being alone for a while would only make it harder to cope. There's a little of her shyness in the way she falters at his suggestion, the matter-of-factness of her earlier statement ebbing away. ]
For me? [ She's genuinely surprised, that much isn't hard to tell. ] People don't usually call me anything but Naminé. Other-- than Terezi, but... I don't think it would make sense for you to call me what she calls me.
[ Which. Would make more sense itself if she explained why, but instead Naminé seems to straighten a little, almost self-consciously. ]
If you'd like to call me something else-- that would be alright.
[ By which she really means she'd appreciate it, actually, but mostly she just looks kind of bashful at the moment, all the while fighting the urge to shrink into her shoulders. It's a valiant effort, to be sure. ]
no subject
He nods in response, parents are delicate subject for him so he tries to be mindful of them when it comes to other people. but if she's made peace with her own situation, he will accept it as such. ]
Yes, a nickname can be fun. Oh, I know Terezi we met the first day I arrived here, she's...a bit special and has a strange sense of humor but she's fun.
[ He won't ask about what the troll calls her because he figures Naminé would have shared if he wanted him to know. ]
Hmm..[ .He gives the girl a good look as if he's thinking really hard about what to call her but in truth, he knows already what could be a good name for her. Peter doesn't want to make Naminé nervous or wait for long, so he smiles a second later. ]
Starlight. Bright and beautiful but also mysterious, I've seen plenty of it in space. What do you think?
no subject
You do?
[ More obvious is the way she perks at his recognition of the name, although even that change is in keeping with her reserved nature. Her head lifts a bit, away from her shoulders, curiosity catching in her expression. The way the corners of her mouth move is warmer, this time, and less melancholy, as though she's amused by the identifying features he's listed. ]
That's-- one way to describe her, yes. We must have met her around the same time.
[ Since she'd encountered Terezi the first day as well. Rather than elaborating on that, however, Naminé lapses into silence as she awaits Peter's verdict. Head tilted, she regards him through the screen with a genuine sort of interest, some of her shyness eased by the realization that they've got a mutual acquaintance.
Maybe that tiny extra chunk of her guard that's been let down makes a difference in the visibility of her reaction to the name when he does present it to her. Her eyelids flutter in a startled blink, but the surprise on her face doesn't seem to be an unpleasant sort. ]
Starlight?
[ She echoes it with just a hint of awe mixed in with the uncertainty, especially once he's described it. It does suit her, pale little thing that she is, with just enough sun in her hair that she'd look ethereal even without the light dresses - but that doesn't mean she sees it that way. It feels more like an undeserved compliment to her, but it's certainly a nice one. And though she hesitates (maybe even longer than it took him to decide on a moniker for her), she can't help herself but to speak the truth; ]
I think I'd be honored to have a name like that.
[ No matter the parts of her that hesitate to take anything good for herself. Her voice is a bit breathy, that bashfulness from before rising again. ]
Especially if it were given to me by the Star Lord.
[ Who else would have the right to make such a pronouncement? At least for the sake of the theme. ]
That is-- if you're sure about it.
no subject
[ 'Interesting' is a word that doesn't make the stories enough justice. 'A bit crazy' were more like it. Peter's world is far from normal, though, so he's not judging. ]
Starlight.
[ He repeats. Peter is still getting to know Naminé too and he doesn't want to make assumptions or be rude either. He's learned a long time ago that first impressions aren't really worth much, that people are much more than they look like and that some lie.
He keeps the saddest and unpleasant parts of himself to himself as much as he can, a friendly smile works well as a façade. He's smiling sincerely now, though, waiting for her to decide if she likes the nickname or not. Which given the response, seems to be a yes. peter's smile only grows. ]
It's your decision in the end Naminé, you need to make sure you like it. But I think you do, so...
no subject
[ Naminé agrees, looking as though she's all too well aware of the true meaning of that word. In her case, however, she seems to take it enough in stride to be a mix of mildly amused and less-mildly concerned about Terezi in general, rather than thinking of what the troll so often describes as bizarre. Naminé's face softens, however, at the repetition of that name. Her name, should she choose to let it be.
She's done her considering already - not that she needed to. It was enough for her from the start, and at his response she turns her face down shyly, but her answer is immediate, sincere. ]
I do.
[ She likes it very much, if she's to be honest. (She always is.) Her chin may be tucked in but her smile rises all the same, genuine and grateful. ]
I'll do my best to be worthy of it. Thank you-- very much, for giving it to me.
maybe we can start wrappign this one up....?
[ He gives Namié a mischievous smile. Terezi is never short of entertaining even if sometimes it worries people a little. ]
My pleasure, really. And thank you for offering to help my friend with your healing powers.
Gotcha :|b
[ Whether because of that funny smile of his or the truth behind the words, Naminé has to tuck a giggle into her hand. Letting her arm fall again, her expression softens with her, ]
Of course...! It wouldn't be right not to at least try to help.
[ Speaking of which - she perks, looking as if she's thought of something. ]
-- Oh. We've been talking for a while. Do you-- need to get back to your other messages? I know you were asking everyone some questions...!
Thanks bb ♥
It's honorable of you, Naminé. Ah, yes I should do that. See you around the city, come visit me any day you want at Skadi's park!
No problem :|bbb I gotchu
Okay...!
[ Perfectly understandable that he's got other matters to attend to - although the last part catches up with her belatedly and she looks momentarily shy. She still manages to respond, however, ]
I'll - remember that you said so. Until later, then...!
Aww <333!
Until then, see ya Starlight.
