» WHO: All
» WHEN: The morning following Tyr and Laufey's announcement on 7/17
» TYPE: Live broadcast
[ It takes some tinkering and awkwardness at first, along with a series of huffs and grumbles you thankfully miss... but when the feed does appear, enjoy a perplexed Daenerys looking at the screen (as well as a reflection of herself, Jon, and Robb). They are wearing modern clothes: button-down shirts for the men, a blazer for Robb, and a royal blue halter-like dress for Dany. ]
Well met, Wanderers. [ … she is speaking to you all, she hopes. ] My name is Daenerys Targaryen. This is Jon Snow and Robb Stark.
[ The feed will jerk as she attempts to angle the screen to both men, respectively. It's not at all elegant, and is, in fact, an eyesore to watch. Which is why seconds later she gives up on it and leaves the strange screen in place in front of her. (Robb gets up as if to try and help her, but his attempts are just as bad as hers. Eventually, he gives it up as a bad job too. Jon, who had inclined his head when Daenerys attempted to introduce him, merely watches now with a skeptical expression: it's going to take a while for them all to get the hang of this.) ]
In our world, war is commonplace. We have armies and generals, as well as a means to communicate when there is an attack on a city or castle. Here, that doesn't seem to be the case. [ Which is strange to her. For all her wariness of these self-proclaimed gods, the smallfolk of Asgard appear to be happy. ] It's why we've approached the gods about a means of gathering. The chaos which followed the dragon's appearance makes us believe that a type of war council is necessary for this realm.
[As Jon begins to speak, he seems a little bit uneasy, slightly awkward, but as his words spin out and gather momentum, he becomes visibly more comfortable with the idea of addressing everyone. It doesn't come as naturally to him as it seems to come to Daenerys.]
When the people of a realm don't work together to face a threat, the end is calamity -- death and hunger and suffering, for those who fought and for those who could not fight. When we know what our strengths are, we know how best to defend against what may come. And when we know what to do, we can be ready to do it, even when we face something that seems impossible to overcome. This is our realm now, all of us. Today, we can put our strengths together. We can begin to make those plans. Maybe we won't ever need them, it's true, but if we do, we won't be caught unawares again.
I know that you may not know us. Each of us has been a king or a queen; not one of us was born with that title. None of us means to try to rule anyone else here, none of us expects to be the loudest voice on any council, but we all have experience with planning for war, and with several kinds of threat.
Daenerys rides a dragon at home, and has taken cities in the East and freed thousands upon thousands of slaves there. I have been Lord Commander of the Night's Watch and King in the North: I've spent long years scouting and defending and preparing for great attacks on my homeland, fighting Wildlings first, and then making an alliance with them to fight the Army of the Dead. My brother Robb was King in the North before me; he was a successful general several times over in campaigns in the southron lands. He knows tactics, battle strategy, better than almost anyone you'll ever meet.
We have all fought for the lives and safety and freedom of our fellow men. We want to continue to do that here and now. We want you to join us, if you will.
[ Jon looks over at Robb, and Robb picks the thread up: ] Understand, we are not asking to go to war. This council is only meant to make certain that we are not caught so off our guard as we were when the dragon attacked. In order to do that, we’re going to organize the council into different groups: preparations, battle and response. We Wanderers come from different worlds, and in times of crisis our different strengths come out. We need to combine our strengths and work together if we are to effectively respond to whatever threats may come next.
( OOC #1: if you want to address a specific cast member, please indicate that in the subject of your comment--otherwise we’ll read it as fair game for any of us to attack C:
OOC #2: We made a spiffy ooc post detailing the war council, as well as sign ups for it. Check it out HERE. )

I hope we never have to face another threat like that dragon... but it's true, it's a good idea to be prepared no matter what.
If the purpose of your announcement is to establish such a council, I would like to be a part of it. I've been a part of enough life-threatening situations and seen up close how soldiers plan and execute their attacks to help with the preparations, if nothing else.

I know some things. [ helpful, tony. ] They might help with your general idea of a war council, or whatever you want to call it. But I've got my own squad of heroes, so I need to run it through the official channels. Bureaucracy, can't live with it, can't live without it.

I am Galadriel Arafinweiel, most recently Lady of Lothlórien. [She gives a slight dip of her head in introduction before continuing to speak. She realizes, after all, that the name means nothing here and a little explanation of what exactly she can do might help.] In addition to a great deal of experience in strategy and preperation, I have also a fair amount of experience on the battlefield, and have been trained as a healer since I was but a child.
I suspect that I would be most valuable acting as a healer, simply based on my own observations, but I will go wherever I am needed.

This sounds like a fantastic idea, and something we need moving forward. I have a feeling that dragon isn’t the only danger that we’re going to face.
[ He should probably introduce himself. ]
I’m Steve, I fought in a war back home and before ending up here I lead a team that helped protect our world. So, where ever you need me I’m glad to pitch in. I have a few people here from my world that would also probably like to help.
permavid;
The realm's smallfolk is cause enough for concern. [ It was clear they'd never seen a dragon before. Their welcome to the Wanderers was another cause for concern, in a way. Such open trust invites those who might deem it necessary to take advantage. ] Especially if there's some way for threats from our own worlds to travel as we have.
[ Upon mention of his war and his team, she can't help but wonder how many others are like Steve and Tony. ]
What sort of war did you fight?

[It's blurted out, with wide eyes, before he remembers he's responding to a serious message and he should at least try to keep to the topic. Shouyou ducks his head, sheepish.] Sorry...it's just really cool, that's all.
Um. If you're putting together a war council, does that mean you'll be showing us what to do if we don't know how to fight, too? I want to help...but I didn't really learn anything that would be useful in this kind of place.
But as to training, aye, we can help those who don't know how to fight learn. I used to help train up farm boys who had never held a sword before. I'm not one of Heimdall's people here, though, so it might be that those who are will be our masters-at-arms. That remains to be seen -- my brother may have more to say on it.

And this is the heart of it, isn't it? You don't know which kind you'd have here next. You're equipped for a certain kind of war, others are wonderfully trained for different kinds altogether and with so many people from so many worlds - how will you know which war to prepare to? A dragon today and lord knows what else tomorrow. We have no intel. Are you to prepare for every eventuality?

[He glances at Robb, standing out of view, and how he died and the strength of the North died with him, and he adds,]
Or within, if people should ever turn on each other.

I had no idea Tony had a younger brother. Hi, mini Stark. [ The blond grins then continues after a beat. ] Looks like you could use a little help with the communicator, I can give you a few tips if you wanted, this is the kind of tech we have at home.
[ Peter's familiar Sandy, today in the shape of a corgi dog, is resting on his lap and wagging her tail. He distractedly scratches her between her ears as he talks. ]
I'm not too fond of the formalities because power gets to people's head all too easily but I'd like to help, it's already what my team does back home. The Guardians protect the galaxy...or try at least. I fight for a living so I've got plenty of experience with weapons and all sorts of combat. Oh, and I'm the best at plans.
Having a strong force to combat any possible dangers is important but if you ask me, the two main issues we should focus on first are Identifying threats and having an Evacuation plan. The dragon's attack started in early morning and it caught us all off guard. We need a warning system. It's the main reason why the network exists, so half the job is done, but there should be people awake at all hours keeping watch so the alarm can actually be set off if something happens.
As for evacuation, it seems like the Castle is the safest place to be when shit goes down and there is a lot of noncombatants in this city. They need to be able to reach the castle in the quickest and safest way possible, which mean we need evacuation routes. If those can't be underground because it would take too much time and resources to build, and we don't have the means, then perhaps we can request the assistance of Honir's horses. They're huge, strong and fast, maybe they're able to move bus-sized carriages.
[ Peter pauses, checking the trio's expressions. He wasn't lying when he said he was he knew how to plan fast. ]
video; u said everyone
[ His smile is quick with hint of teeth, and he has a piece of bone in hand that he is waving slightly at the books around him. ]
We should check the maps for this city and the positions of the highest concentration of humans and us and work out plans from there. I can't say that the horses will all be willing to haul humans around all the time, but if we can work on a transportation system that also utilizes the waterways or simple laws of nature, we can have something in place. Also, I wonder if there aren't already cellars in some parts of the city; some of the food we've been receiving does need cold places for keeping and I can't see all of them to have such things as those ice boxes in them.
Sure I did!

Look, I'll take my blindfold off just so I can help the three of you never do that again!
Seriously, you need to know how to use the network ok?
Also?
Yes. Councils. Kick ass. Have plan. Not a terrible idea, right up until a bunch of doofuses start arguing with each other for hours on end and one of them ends up arguing with himself. But I digress. Yes, I'm on board with that.
[And all of that slightly insulting but cooperative drivel would have made perfect sense to anyone, if Terezi wasn't repeatedly typing in l33t sp34k like an idiot.]
(OOC: You may assume she types in that horrible drible she does, but if you want to actually see her type that way just let me know. I like to spare people when I can.)
[voice]
How does taking your blindfold off help us?
[He sounds genuinely interested, if also a little bit confused. In some ways, this is like learning to write all over again. It's been years since he felt like a green boy, and he can't afford to look like one at this point in his life, and so the feeling is discomfiting.]
And a doofus, that's a fool, aye?

A generally sound idea, that council of yours. However, it will still require a certain level of cooperation and trust.[ he trails off and, yeah, that sounds innocent enough at the moment ]
Which brings me to my question. How did you earn your titles then? [ another pause as he thinks about subtlety. Maybe he should hint at what he's referring to? ] I believe one only becomes regent when the old one dies, no?
Each of us, my brother and I, was made King in the North by the Northern lords. They swear fealty to you of their own choosing. There hadn't been a King in the North in three hundred years; we were subject to the Iron Throne down south in that time.
[And he shifts topic there, because talking about his brother's betrayal and murder right here and now seems unbearable, and cruel.]
Daenerys might wish to tell her own tale, but she's the daughter of the last Targaryen to sit the Iron Throne. She was raised in exile and married to a king. People began to follow her after his death. She hatched three dragon eggs when everyone thought dragons were gone forever.
But none of that is very important. We only thought to explain why we wanted to bring as many together as want to come. None of us are strangers to war councils at home; if Daenerys and I weren't here, we'd be faced with them there. There is a great war ahead of us.

I was considering setting up a godhaus of my own, a place where all might speak freely ...
[ Like, a shed somewhere near Laufey's domain on the outskirts. Don't judge. He's still working out the details. ]
[Or are you a tall-talker, like Tormund, or did he mistake the implication of what was said to him?]
We thought to have the meeting in Nādhirhöll, in Tyr's district. It's well-placed and appointed to be a meeting hall. Tables and seating for a great many people, and food, if we want it.

I was the strategist among my brothers for our army. I've won almost every battle I've ever planned for and fought in, including when I reigned as king. [That's not conceit, that's just straight-up fact.] If you need someone who can see things others don't, then I will be able to contribute much.
