Hey everyone! So, now I've seen we have animals....you remember how I was talking about making ice cream before? Well, it might take a bit longer to make enough if everyone wants some, but. Come over and we can make our best effort!

[Because of course this is Sora's priority here. Finding out there were animals and having asked the Gods regarding...well, a freezer to keep it cold, of course. He's trying at least, to make plenty of it for everyone, especially with having heard that some people have never had any ice cream before. Of course the initial flavor will be sea salt, which might not be to everyone's tastes but he can also figure some others that are more traditional as well.

He now only has Naminé from home with him, but he is still trying to do what he can. Possibly in part because he knows this is something Roxas and Xion would have liked, and as something to keep him from getting too down about missing them and Ventus. Keeping busy helps. Between wanting to do this, figuring his training in wanting to learn about his new powers here, and continuing his attempts to not get too rusty with his Keyblade, he keeps busy enough. He is probably making a right mess of the kitchen doing this but that is half of the fun aside from the taste testing, right? Of course it is.]

Sure we will! There's plenty! I asked for lots so we can make enough for everyone!

[So he should have more than enough ingredients. Hopefully. Though he can't help but to smile and chuckle at her teasing.]

[ It's funny, how easy it is not to think about this new freedom sometimes. It's become more and more normal to her every day; having friends, having the chance to see them whenever she likes. Walking the streets, breathing in the air, hearing the chickens cluck - feeling the sun on her face. Were she thinking about it, it might overwhelm her, but right now, all that's on her mind is getting where she's supposed to be. That, and ice cream. (And Sora, of course.)

So it really doesn't take long before there's a knock at Heimdall's door, quiet enough to suggest just who's on the other side. ]

Come in!

[Sora doesn't say her name, but he is pretty sure it is probably her. Given he had invited her and all. Along with everyone else, so he doesn't want to assume or anything, as he looks up from checking his recipes and making more ice cream.

His tongue is poking out as he mixes some ice cream ingredients, lips parting slightly as he glances up to the knocking to see who it is.]

[ It certainly sounds like her, if the quiet way the door opens is any indication. She peers through the gap between it and the doorframe first, despite having heard his voice. She knows she's in the right place, but she still steps in carefully, shutting the door behind her with a gentle touch that means it makes very little noise. ]

Starting already?

[ she asks, walking closer to where he's set up. Her eyes are curious as they rove over the materials he has out; she'd noticed he seemed to already be in progress in the video, so it's more observation than an actual question. ]

Eheh. Yeah. I figured if I get some ready now, people can at least come taste test while we get the rest made?

[He says has he grins over at her, ignoring or not noticing the splatter of ice cream mixture at his cheek as he stirs up the mixture again in the bowl at the bench. He gets out a Popsicle stick and dips it into some to hand to her to try.]

What do you think? Too much salt?

That makes sense to me...! [ Said in her own kind of cheerful way, subtle but glad as she comes to stand alongside the collected ingredients. Still studying them curiously, she blinks as his movement draws her eye. ]

-- Oh, [ she says, realizing his intent. She reaches out to take the stick in delicate fingers, drawing it toward herself with a soft, ] Thank you.

[ There's only a brief hesitation before she puts the stick in her mouth; after all, she's not had much of a chance to try ice cream before. She pauses, nose scrunching, and pulls the stick out of her mouth again with pursing lips. ]

Mm. [ She confirms, swallowing before she adds, ] A-- little too much, yes.

[ It might be more than a little. ]

It's supposed to be... sweeter, isn't it?

[ Not that she has anything more than secondhand memories to go on. ]

Sea salt is supposed to be kind of salty though. See, try the chocolate.

[Cue him giving her another sample, this time of a darker coloured flavor. Look, how is she supposed to know if it is too salty if she has nothing to compare it to? Most other ice creams have none, after all. Just the sweetness of the sugar with their flavorings to taste, without that salty tang to it.]

Yes, but...

[ She trails off of her own volition, eyes following his hand as he reaches for the next sample. Taking it is automatic, though actually putting it in her mouth to taste it is something she allows herself a moment to savor. For practical reasons, mostly, since she's being asked her opinion - and yet it's still a significant milestone in her life, getting to have ice cream. Or pre-ice cream, anyway. ]

… I like that one. But the sea salt - it still seems too salty to me.

[ Although her memories remain secondhand, and her mouth twists into a funny little shape as she begins to say, ]

If Roxas were here-- [ She falters without quite realizing why. Something in her chest clenches, a quiet sort of sadness that she's been keeping busy enough to try to ignore, most days. To her credit, she wilts only slightly before she finishes, ] -- I think I'd trust his opinion more than my own.

I... [ Some of the somberness sticks around, dampening her, ] … don't really eat very many salty things. That might be why it seems like too much to me.

That might be it. Or just....I know it isn't as common a flavor for most to be used to. I guess I just liked it because of Roxas? I just figured....with him and Xion, that we should at least try to make it.

[Still. Sora is trying not to dwell too much on how he misses the others. How almost strange and hollow it might feel to be without Roxas or Ven. Or even Xion, now. If he doesn't keep busy, he might be worried he would break, if not for her at least. In him not being entirely, completely alone.]

It's... unique. That's what's so nice about it, [ she agrees, voice quieted after the mention of the others.

Which is funny, really, because even though she knows intellectually that there are other, less odd flavors of ice cream, she hardly has room to pass judgement on them when she's never even tasted them. But that's not what has her shoulders rising, melancholy eyes lingering on the in-progress foodstuff. ]

… I think it's important, too.

[ To try to make sea salt ice cream, even though they're the only two left. Naminé is not quite so likely to falter under the pressure of being alone - for she has been already, hasn't she, for so long? But it still weighs on her, how their group has thinned, how she can no longer see those familiar faces. Just for a second, her eyes squeeze shut - and then she opens them again, head raising. ]

So... what can I help with?

[ Better, she thinks, that they keep busy indeed. For both their sakes. ]

Heh. I guess. I figured it might not be everyone's favourite. That's why I'm making lots of different flavours! Want to help make up some vanilla?

[That seemed a safe option. One less....unique or intense as one might find the sea salt. So Sora offers her that option if she wants to start with something simpler and probably more to her taste in comparison to the sea salt that he made.]

I have most of the ingredients here already. We'd just have to figure the vanilla beans.

That's probably a good choice, [ she agrees, in spite of how blasphemous it could potentially be to say such a thing were one of the others around. No, it's a practical call, really. Naminé steps a bit closer, hands stretching out before her slightly to rest fingertips carefully on the table. ] That way no one has to be disappointed.

[ Ideally, anyway. Anyone who wanted a common flavor would be happy, at the least. To his suggestion; ]

Sure. [ It's easy enough to acquiesce to that; she would likely have taken just about any option, really. Her lips part slightly at the caveat, however, head tilting. ]

Were you not able to find any?

Heh, right. But no! I have some! I just haven't actually made it myself before. But there's the recipe, so as long as we follow that it should be fine!

[And ice cream does not involve actual cooking or baking, so. Less risk in that sense of something getting burnt and ruined? Only so much Sora could mess up with mixing together the ingredients and putting it in the freezer. Or so he figures.]

Oh, [ she breathes, shoulders relaxing slightly in small but obvious relief. That would have been unfortunate, not having one of the things that should have been easier to get, compared to the animal products. In any case, with thoughtfully pursing lips, ]

Then, may I see it?

[ The recipe, that is. ]

I don't-- really know how to cook very well, but if I only have to follow the directions...

[ She can work it out, right? Right. ]

Sure.

[He gives a nod and a smile, passing her the recipe. With her helping, they could make twice as much ice cream, in theory. Sora gestures for her to read it and get started, telling her to ask if she needs help with anything once he ensures she has everything over on her side of the bench.]

Thank you, [ she responds softly, stretching out a hand to take the recipe. Though she's curious, she remembers herself well enough to return his smile before letting her eyes fall to the object he's given her. Her attention is taken up with it quite quickly, though she does nod at his offer of potential help.

Which. She might need, really, because before long she's giving the recipe a perplexed look. Carefully, she looks over what's arrayed before her, then collects the vanilla beans to move them over onto a cutting board. Thereafter she starts to reach for a knife, pauses, then think to glance up at him to ask, ]

You aren't using that one, are you?

Hm? Oh. No, go ahead.

[He's right there if she does need a hand. Sora smiles, glancing over to check she is alright every so often as he figures his own ice cream. He focuses on his own but is paying attention in case she has any more questions or needs help. He gives a nod as she gets started, pleased she seems to want to help and is comfortable enough to do so.]

[ With another soft word of thanks, she reaches to pick up the knife in a careful grip. When he checks on her, he might find that she's set to work trying to prepare the vanilla beans for use in the ice cream.

Although it's. Not an easy task for someone as inexperienced as she is. She's chosen the smallest knife possible, which makes it a bit easier, but she seems to be struggling to actually wedge it into the bean properly. The first time the bean slips, the second time she's not quite pressing hard enough with the knife.

She'll... get it eventually? She seems to be very concentrated on the task, at least. ]

You got it?

[He asks, noting when the bean slips, obviously wanting to be careful in her not cutting herself somehow with dealing with the beans. Because yeah ice cream is delicious and important but he doesn't want her getting hurt in making it with him like this. He glances over after the first attempt, to check she is managing okay and didn't cut herself in the process.]

Um--

[ The bean rolls a little again as she looks up, then looks back down again sharply, fingers pulling back instinctively so as not to risk cutting herself, though there wasn't much danger of that this time. ]

Yes, I think so...! It's just-- harder than I expected, that's all.

[ Which goes for the task, really, but-- ]

The bean, that is.

They kind of are, yeah. Just be careful and try not to get your fingers.

[Alas, Sora doesn't have his healing spells here, so it would just be plain first aid, or as basic of it as he knows. If something were to happen. But he wants to let her try to do it, so he doesn't immediately step in unless she asks him for help. Wanting to let her build her confidence and experience things for herself as best he can help her with at least.]

-- Right.

[ Her lips press together thoughtfully, expression a little more determined. Delicately she presses her fingers around the bean again, returning her attention to it as though it requires genuine focus for her to figure out how to cut the darn thing. This time she adjusts the angle of the knife a bit, and-- ]

-- Oh.

[ Well, that works better - enough so, at least, for her to finally wedge the point in there. Now she just has to... cut along the rest of it. ]

Ah, that's it! Now just cut along now you have it like that!

[He encourages her when he glances over and sees her making a bit of progress then. Cooking or such was possibly new to her, for all he knows, but he is glad she is trying and he is willing to help if she needs it.]

Okay...!

[ Naminé is... quite unused to encouragement of any kind, much less such immediate gratification. But his cheerleading brings a careful smile to her face all the same as she glances up at him, then back down at the bean. Slowly she makes the cut in question, which-- ends up a bit wobbly, really, but she makes it to the other end of the bean eventually, and that's Progress. ]

That's right, isn't it?

[ Surely he'd have mentioned it if she were cutting the bean the wrong direction, or something. ]

Yeah, that's it. The beans are where the flavor really is. So we add them to the mix and freeze it!

[Basically. The recipes he has are basic, simple but still hopefully going to turn out well. Especially with the stand in freezer or whatever equivalent is called that the gods provided to keep it chilled.]
