I don't know how, but it completely slipped my mind. Yesterday was the anniversary of my birth. I think.

I feel terrible. Were there any local rituals I was meant to observe? Did the gods expect some kind of sacrifice or fast? If so, I'll do that right away!

I...don't see why we wouldn't age. We do everything else like normal. We eat and breathe and...get sick.

But also do things that aren't normal, like have powers we mayn't have before, or those who had them no longer do. So something must have happened to our bodies.

I mean, I know how to tell. But it's a slow process.

Mnn, well, I've been told growing among children is quite quick! Whenever I visit relatives I always hear "why Alice, how much you've grown" and I could have seen them only the week before! So perhaps we can wait a week or so to see if I've done so?

Oh ah, yes miss! What might your name be? I don't think we've been properly introduced!

Oh, my name's Ariadne. But most people call me "Airy."

[She giggles. Thus proving the nickname entirely too appropriate.]

A pleasure to meet you, Miss Airy! [She giggled too, as the energy was quite infectious.] It's a lovely name! I feel like I've heard it somewhere. My name is Alice Liddell, everyone calls me Alice. I think it's because Alice is quite a short name already that if you were to make it shorter, it would be a boy's name like Al, or something quite chilling like Ice.

Maybe we should ask one of the healers if we're still growing.

Maybe. But sometimes, I get the feeling they don't understand this place any more than we do.

Oxford, England to be precise.

Are there a great deal of oxen?

Oh... no no... At least... well, if there were I've never seen that many! Perhaps there were but not anymore? That would make sense! Perhaps I can find someone who might know! I know that Oxford University, that's where I live, is one of the oldest universities in England.

I've never been to one. But I hear they're very interesting!

Well, neither have I, to be honest. I live there because papa is the vice-chancellor there. But it's simply massive, you could get lost for days and days!

A vice-chancellor is someone who helps the chancellor sort of a... second in command, I suppose! The chancellor is in charge of all sorts of things at the university... I... don't know entirely what though, every time it's brought up I get a little lost.
