[ Rhys has only just stepped out of the castle when he starts the video. There's not much that has changed about him. His hair is slicked slightly more to the side, with a couple of stylish stray hairs hanging down, and the colour of his left eye is golden rather than blue. Closer to his natural eye color, but still obviously different.

If he doesn't look very happy, well, that's because he was in the middle of something. Meaning that, after a lot of time and effort, they finally managed to open the damn vault, but before he got to actually see what was in that big chest, he ended up here. So, yeah, you can bet he's annoyed. All that work and he's left with a cliffhanger, and now it might be months before he finds out! ]

Hi, everyone. Not sure ... I don't know who noticed I was gone, or how long I was gone, or who's still here, but ... I'm back? Rhys. That's my name. I'm-- Uh. So. Slightly disconcerting fact. I went home for ... a while. Like. Months. Thing is, I don't think I remembered ever being here. I'm a little, uh, confused, still. It's like I need to sort out what order everything happened in and who everyone is.

A lot's happened. Not gonna go into that. Just a ... couple of things. Firstly, if Klaus and company are still here and you're still living in that house, I'd love if someone could meet me halfway with a coat or something because I'm dressed for the desert, not this. Secondly, Gaige, if you're still here and willing to talk to me, that'd be ... great. Or I guess you could just cuss me out more, or punch me in the face, or whatever.

Other than that, let me know if I missed anything exciting? Again, no idea how long it's been. Pretty sure it was winter when I was here last but, I dunno, maybe it's been a whole year. Or more.

[ He does one single finger gun, and ends the feed before he starts making his way through Honir district.

[ Little confused about why Klaus did it, but he just won't ask. ]

It's yours, I didn't know if you'd be alright with it.

She would? [yeah, no, it's much better that nobody asks and just accepts the fact klaus is a fucking weirdo.] ...well, that makes me feel better about them.

[ There's a slight shiver, as the cold is really starting to creep into his spine, and he sighs wistfully. ]

Wish I could activate her here, but I really doubt it'll work.

[see? that's exactly why he'd been running in the first place.

thankfully though, klaus is close enough, he ends the feed as soon as he spots rhys, rushing up to him with a coat (the one peter got him for christmas, specifically) in hand. he hesitates oh-so-briefly then shakes his head, closes the remaining distance between them and swings the jacket around rhys's shoulders, dragging him in to bump their foreheads together afterward. don't judge him, he missed this fool!]

Activate? Like, turning her on?

[ Gosh, he's fine. A little bit of cold doesn't kill anyone this fast.

As soon as the coat is on him, he grabs the edges of it and tugs it tighter, and snorts quietly in amusement at the bump. Okay.

Cute. ]

Yeah. There's a button somewhere.

[no, it wouldn't, but that doesn't make klaus worry any less. the cold still bites in an indescribable way; he can't imagine being dressed for the desert and showing up without cover where it's dumping snowflakes.

he stays there a moment longer than necessary, huffs and reluctantly withdraws, hands moving to tuck into his pockets.]

Well, it can't hurt to try.

[ He gives Klaus a firm pat on the back, and lingers for a moment before he drops his hand.

It's really weird to have to remember all these ... friendships and whatever he wants to call his relationship with Klaus after forgetting about them entirely. Just. That doesn't seem right. ]

Let's go home. Try it.

[hmmm. now, why did that feel so awkward? klaus's unsure and if he stops to think about it for long, his thoughts wander too much, which never ends well.

but rhys says ‘home,’ like it's something normal and the slope of his shoulders relaxes beneath a mostly comfortable weight, an absent smile lifting his lips afterward.] Yeah, that sounds good.

Getting out of the snow would be great as well. Too fucking cold for this shit.

Personally, I'm pretty happy to be out of the sweltering Pandoran sun.

[ He finally puts his arms through the sleeves as he starts walking. ]

I'm Jack-free, by the way.

I'd say snow is better because you can always put more clothes on... but let's be real: you and I both know I'd have no problems walking around naked. [yeah, enjoy that sunburn, klaus.

his attention shifts, giving rhys a once-over then darting back up to his face.]

That why you got new hardware? [he can't help grinning.] Which looks great, sweetheart.

[ He snorts, shaking his head. Going naked in the desert sun? Terrible idea, but whatever you say, Klaus. ]

Oh, and Assquez is dead, so I guess you could say I'm rid of the vermin.

[rhys made them himself? well, goddamn— klaus's features lift with amazement, his whole upper-half almost sideways because of how far he tilts. (almost, except not quite.)

he's known about rhys's affinity for tech stuff, so it shouldn't be surprising? and it's not – not really, the guy's smart! – but hearing that he'd made his own cybernetics is... freaking awesome to put it simply. makes him wonder, though.] Bitchin'.

What happened to the other ones? And— [a snort. rhys, please! but that's so good,] —and ‘Assquez,’ as you've so eloquently put it.

[ Atlas has some really good stuff to make fancy things. He's had a blast playing around with it. If the smile on his face is proud about the compliment, well ... He is pretty happy with them. ]

Assquez got shot in the stomach with a shotgun when a bandit queen decided he was more of a liability than an asset.

[ Said so casually. You know. Just Pandora things. ]

And my cybernetics, well ... It's a long story, but let's just keep it to 'I tried to kill Jack for good so he decided to choke me to death with them and I had to literally tear them out' for now. It sucked. I'd rather not do that again.

[well, everything was all sunshine and smiles initially, but hearing about vasquez getting shot (deserved!) then listening to rhys explain having to rip his damn parts out (why???) is just. hella fucking alarming, to put it mildly.]

Good riddance. That's swifter justice than what he deserves though, honestly.

[as for the other part of this discussion, klaus can't help drifting closer, reaching up and out, touching rhys's cheek below the cybernetic eye.] Goddamn, man, you're a helluva lot stronger than I am. [and far stronger than he'd ever given him credit for... which kinda makes him feel like a shitheel, although he's never said it out loud and there's no reason to now, either.]

[ He shrugs, not quite sure what to make of that. It was just ... Well, what else was he supposed to do? ]

[he opens his mouth like he's got something to retort with, stops, snaps it shut so fast, his teeth audibly click. isn't that exactly what he'd done in vietnam? it sure is.]

Yeah, I do know. [his hand moves back a little too quickly, but it doesn't matter after both of them are being shoved into his pockets.] All too well, really.

So anyway, I'm CEO now I guess, but not for Hyperion. I got the rights to this other company called Atlas. I made this stuff in one of their leftover bases, or whatever, on Pandora. I thought I lost all of my friends, too, but turns out we all made it!

[ So despite all that ... bullshit, that kind of haunts his dreams sometimes, he's fine. All good. ]

[wow, that is... that's a lot to absorb. not like when rhys was telling him about vaults and jack and vasquez, but like. goddamn, man.]

Finally made it to the top, huh? Only took bucketloads of trauma to get that far. [and while he laughs, albeit awkwardly, klaus does shift, nudges his elbow against rhys's shoulder then smiles somewhat.]

Good to hear about your friends, though. Always nice to know you didn't make it out alone.

[ Bucketloads of trauma is right, and Klaus doesn't even know half of it. Rhys laughs wryly, with a nod of agreement. ]

Boy, do I have some stories for you.

[ Klaus had volunteered his time before, reassuring Rhys that he really didn't mind the mess that was his universe, so he's going to assume it's fine to tell him everything that went to shit after he went home. ]

[no, he sure doesn't, and yet he says without hesitation:] Ooo, story time!

[as if he needed any more reassurance. in klaus's defense though, he's extremely curious about what happened with rhys and his friends, how they handled all the vault business and everything in-between.

except it's something that happened for real? so calling it ‘story time’ feels grossly understated.] My bad, man, that sounded kinda horrible. You know what I mean, though? [hope...fully...]

[ Considering everything the stories entail, it's a little bit tasteless, but it's not like Klaus knows about it. So, really, it's fine, and the snort and laughter that leaves Rhys should make that more than obvious. ]

So, I think I've mentioned Vaughn before? But I don't think I ever told you about my ... other friend ... Yvette.

[whew, he actually thought he'd fucked up with that one. the laughter reassures him though, makes klaus give a half-smile, his hands twisting absently in his coat pockets.]

[a beat] I remember Vaughn, yeah, but definitely not Yvette. And it sounds like it's going to be quite an explanation.

Me and Vaughn have been friends since university. Yvette came along later, after we were employed by Hyperion, but she seemed ... cool, or whatever. It was kind of us three against the world for years.

[ He snorts, dry and bitter more than amused. ]

Joke's on us because as soon as she realised she could get what she wanted out of it she sold us out to Vasquez. She tracked us for him. It's been months and I'm stilled pissed off.

[aw, cute, they're like a corporate trio or some shit. the way rhys doesn't immediately continue – and the derisive snort, let's be real – tells klaus there's a great big ol' ‘but’ coming after this, though.

it's unfortunate that he's right. damn, how fucked up is it, someone abruptly turning on you whenever they know they'll be fine in the end? so much for loyalty.

in spite of himself, his mouth wins out.] Did you wreck that bitch's shit? [which isn't very nice, he doesn't know yvette but he absolutely does not give a single fuck. anyone who turns on their friends like that is shitty.]
