So many of you are so calm about the dead walking about and everywhere. Is it really so common in so many other worlds that it's no different than some cloudy weather for you all?

[Not even... a little bit scared, as far she can tell.] There's stories of the dead walking among the living, or even the undead, but they're stories.

Though... I suppose that must be why there are bells on so many tombstones back home. [She hadn't thought that's what they were for.]

I actually didn't know other worlds had ever dealt with the undead before all this. They're not what I'm used to, exactly but...

( Close enough. They're dangerous physically, if not infectious, but still deadly. )

If anything I thought Asgard was a place without things like this-- ( But what can you do? ) Don't know anything about bells, though.

I had only heard stories, things of vampires and ghouls and ghosts, things of that sort. Not... not whatever this is, or those things are.

But you have them? I had never dealt with anything like this, I don't think anyone has.

Oh, the bells... well, if you were buried alive, the string would lead to your coffin so you could ring it and then the groundskeeper would dig you out.

Not ones that look like people, but something similar. Undead things are a pain to deal with no matter what shape or size they come in, so human ones shouldn't be any different.

I know spirits and ghosts are something -- no experience there. But vampires? Those are just some scary fairytale. There's no way those are real.

So it IS common? Goodness, I'm not sure I want to be in a world where the dead can actually be about like that.

Oh, vampires are real, they're part of the eastern countries. I've never met one personally but they're as real as mermaids! [Which is to say, in Alice's world, not at all. But Victorians were massively into the occult and weirdly gullible about this kind of stuff and she's all of 7.]

Not common, no. But the Enemy's greatest lieutenant is a necromancer and delights especially in binding the souls of our people to use against us.

A necro- what is a necromancer? It doesn't sound very terrible... but... I suppose it must be for you to mention it.

Why would anyone want to manipulate the dead? The dead are meant to rest, that's why you say "rest in peace."

There are people who bring the dead back to life? But why?... and how!

I wouldn't call them people as much as I would name them demons. Often they do so to show their power over mortal flesh. Even if that power is little more than illusions that quickly turn to dust.

But it's a demon, aren't they already more powerful than people. That's why they're demons and people are people.

These aren't so common in my world. But...my father would say tis no good to panic, because it solves nothing and nothing gets done.

[She frowns.] They put bells on tombstones in your world?

Panic perhaps doesn't solve much, but no one is surprised at all! Surprise and panic aren't the same thing, after all.

Some of them, not all of them. It was only those who were scared of being buried alive. Though I had heard there were different things done as well, some coffins had metal tubes that led all the way up to the surface so that if you were buried by accident, you could still breathe and be dug out when it was discovered you weren't dead.

Perhaps not, but I think surprise could often lead to panic I think. Suppose people aren't familiar with zombies, but to look around at everyone, t'would be easy enough to figure that they're dangerous.

Everyone's been busy preparing for an attack.

[She becomes pale at the mention.] That's horrifying. I don't suppose you know of any real life accounts?

Well, I'm very glad for you then that you seem to not get surprised or panicked. But I think it's silly to think that those who have never encountered it are just suddenly alright with it and can move on as if it's just a cloudy day.

Oh, so the WALKING dead doesn't frighten you, but someone being buried alive does? You've such an odd sense of what to be scared about.

For myself, it's not due to this being common. I have been trained since a young age to be a fighter and protector. Because of this, I learned to face every threat calmly with my perception open to strategies to win.

Oh... but even with training, don't you get surprised or scared even just a little? You can't be trained for everything, can you?

True. I have been surprised many times since my companions and I started on our journey. Few things frighten me, but should I face those fears, I would be more motivated than ever to fight back against them.

Well, undead walking around and trying to kill people are far easier to hit than ghosts.

You have to deal with ghosts too? That sounds so dreadful! Why are so many of the dead not staying so?... Or... I suppose ghosts stay dead but can't move on? But why aren't they leaving, in any case?

The reasons vary, but for ghosts, as far as I know they tend to stick around because they left something unfinished. Or because they really don't want to pass on.

[This is not, incidentally, going into lichs and other monsters classified as undead, mostly just because Molly hasn't fought them. He's fought a ghost and zombies, and that's pretty much it.]

The zombies were more—I suppose you could call it a virus or some sort? But we cut it off at the source without letting too many people die.

I don't know if what we have back home is quite the same but the threat seems pretty similar.

[ and that's got him understandably nervous, considering he wasn't immune back home and has only just figured out how to summon his dream guide. he's not really... he's not really well equipped for this emergency, all but useless and he hates that.
