ragnarsson: ([12.12] Sacrifice)

Video; Where's The Laughter in Slaughter?

[When the camera gets turned on, the first thing to note is that Ivar's face is streaked in blood that has only just started to dry in places. Someone's been out worshiping with the natives in a fashion very familiar to a Viking. If y'all hadn't gotten the impression Ivar was a bloodthirsty barbarian from a bygone era, the imagery is definitely reinforced with the dripping red streaks on his face. Also is that some around his lips as well? Has he been drinking the stuff too? Honestly, though, he seems quite pleased by what's been going on even if everyone else might be disturbed by the casual slaughter of the cows. His tone starts off very serious, since worship is important where he's from.]

About time this place started getting some proper worship going. I know most of you all are from soft places-- [The scorn in his tone is obvious.] --but blood sacrifices are always the best when giving due diligence to these gods where I am from. Blood demands blood, especially if you want them to be on your side in battle, or to favor you at all. It's really not all that different then slaughtering animals for food, just with more rituals and rites to it.

[Then he switches back to his usual tone that ranges somewhere between insanity and half-truths end tends to indulge in.]

It's a good thing we finally got the right sort of animals around here. Otherwise, I might have had to resort to sacrificing one of you. [He muses for a moment before laughing.] I'm joking of course! [Beat.] Human sacrifices only work if they're willing participants.

[OOC: This post is for a general discussion, so feel free to have threads amongst all the characters and thread-jacking rather then just talking with Ivar. Do let me know if you do want a specific thread with him! He has rather...strong opinions about this.]

[ She may be a doctor's daughter, but her medical knowledge doesn't go far enough to know whether or not that could still be dangerous.. Especially when there's turning-into-animals magic involved. Especially the latter. So.. ]

It can't hurt to get checked out, right? Just in case! It would be no good if you suddenly got really sick.. [ Even though the gods may be able to help in that case, but she'd rather not take the risk. ] If you think going by yourself and maybe having to wait there is boring, I wouldn't mind coming with you.

Pandora! Rhys mentioned that planet. Do you know each other or have you two met here?

Tall brunette, metal arm, a bit weird...

[ If they had cats here, those would really be a perfect gift for Honir because they like to be pampered to no end. ]

Okay I should have specified...a good reason. Like saving the Galaxy or self-defense. The locals here could now decide: 'Well, killing a bunch of cows didn't particularly improve our god's powers or make things better, let's try to up our game and see if humans sacrifices make a difference'.

[ After that, Peter's silent for a few seconds, studying Honir's face. He sounds honest, he even looks like it. Peter really wants to believe that he is. ]

No, they did not. Naminé, Mike and some others of the kids were frightened and, If I am honest with you, so was I. It's not only because of what the locals did than what they have the potential to do.

No, and it upsets every mouse I've spoken to. But have you met a cat? They don't much care about anyone's permission, they're cats.

Provided that the Gods here agree to let this continue to happen, of course.

[ Jim thinks they most likely will, but still, it doesn't hurt to remind Ivar that it's not yet decided. He for one would rather not talk as though this is a done deal, and even if he thinks it's pointless, he still has a sliver of hope that the sacrifices won't be allowed to continue. ]

No, neither will I. Honestly, this whole thing has made me lose appetite for meat for a good while.

I'll keep you in mind, should we get something up and running. Thank you, Mary.

well, I mean yeah. Prey don't like eating, but I'm sure if grass had think pans and protein chutes they'd tell the moo beast not to eat them too! I mean, that's just kind of how things go in that.

You have? Really? I thought--

Wow.

When you told me about where you came from it sounded ... really nice. Like. You should've seen the planet just came from. Kind of makes this look like nothing? I've seen ... so many things I'll never be able to unsee. But I'm still grossed out.

"The dwarves took equally heavy losses in the Nirnaeth, and although they grow faster than we, they will likely not willingly leave their fortresses again anytime soon. And Men have proven often faithless....too many have been seduced by Morgoth, and the three houses of the Edain who still hold their Oaths have been enslaved by their fellow Men."

He says wearily. "Besides. Morgoth Bauglir is the greatest of the Powers. We should have known - we were warned and behold, the words of the Judge of the Powers have come true. I would my daughter were safe in Valinor, away from this war, but then she would not have met Tuor, and I would never have had the chance to hold my grandson."

you assume that those of us who don't deal in blood don't do messy work.

but we can come to terms on this. i'd prefer to not continue talking about the specifics over this network, but you've a deal of a sorts.

[Honestly, she doesn't know the nature of this place, but it's best to be able to have this set now. When the time comes, and it's never an if, but a when, she'd rather be fully prepared.]

cant say im exactly familiar with it
home was more about the docks and everything rather than farms
but it was still there
idk im just too used to sacrifices being a bad thing ig?

the problem is sometimes people dont know how
i mean like you said
telling only does so much
so its more a wait and see kinda deal
sassery: (don't be slow)

[personal profile] sassery 2019-09-29 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
theres a reason why i dont expect it much
people like doing stupid stuff
and when you tell them theyre gonna regret it
they dont listen

but what do i know

Ah, well.. You know..

[ She makes a slightly awkward noise, but then quickly tries to wave off his surprise. She'd rather not focus on her own negative experiences too much. There's a reason she left most of the war talk out of her description of where she's from! ]

But I think that the fact you're still grossed out despite what you have seen means that you're still a good person, no matter what you have experienced. You haven't let it grow yourself hard and cold to the point where this wouldn't even affect you anymore.

[ Mike figures he must be a friend to be able to insult Ivar and not receive violent threats in return. ]

Are you from his world?

It makes sense that you'd be looking out for his son.

Ivar's been teaching me how to fight. I owe him a lot. [ He's a lot braver and more confident thanks to him. ]

I helped raise two of Ragnar’s other children. I did not know Ivar well. He is only a few years old in my time.

He is a good kid sometimes.

What age do you like him better?

It was... different.

[ but it had been a relief more than anything too. ]

Well, his mother didn’t let me near him very often. She was overprotective to a fault and didn’t particularly like Christians either.

[ And she was jealous of ragnar’s fondness pd the monk. ]

So, it is hard to say. I know him better here.

That..Niðavellir. My bad. [ Well, Peter tried. At least it made Odin smile. ]

I'm not used to believing in a higher power, I admit. I know they exist, hard to deny it when I saw them first hand, it's just that so far it had given me nothing but trouble. But I'm just a man.

[ Unimportant in the big scheme of things and the infinity of the universe, like a grain of sand by the shore. Odin's words made him pause, curiosity in Peter's green eyes. ]

You can feel them? Can you feel our emotions too?

If they harmed one of you, they would know the wrath of their god.

[ It's not said as a threat. Still the same careful deadpan, a statement of fact. Whether or not they'd actually do it is on them - but he imagines not. ]

And we don't want more of you here, besides. Our goal is rather to get you all home, so we'd prefer it if there were fewer of you.

[ :') ]
